What is GATE Exam ?

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) Exam is conducted jointly by Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and seven IITs. GATE is held for PG admissions to Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture and Science programmes offered across IITs, NITs and other leading centrally funded institute on behalf of the National Coordinating Board, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development.
In GATE exam, candidates can apply for only one of the 23 papers listed in the table given below. Candidates are expected to appear in a paper appropriate to the discipline of their qualifying degree. However, candidates are free to choose any paper according to their admission plan. For more details regarding the admission criteria in any particular institute, candidates are advised to refer to the websites of that particular institute.

GATE Exam Eligibilty 

To apply Gate Exam candidate must fullfill the following criteria:
1. Candidates may be Indian Nationals.

 2. Final year students are eligible to apply

 3. International candidates should have completed a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Master’s degree in Science in a relevant subject or must be in the final year of the program. 

Eligible Qualifying DegreeEligibility of the Candidates as per the academic year of passing
B.E./B.Tech/4 years completed after 10+2 either by JEE Main/ADVC or private college.
B.Arch5 years course completed. Final year students are eligible
B.S4 years course completed after 10+2. Final year students are eligible to apply
Masters in Mathematics/ Statistics/ Science/ M.C.ACompleted or currently in final year
Int. M.E/ M.Tech (Post BSc) (Four year programme)4 years course completed. Students in the 2nd/3rd/4th year are also eligible
Integrated M.E./M.Tech or 5 year Dual Degree (Engineering/ Technology)Completed. Students in the 4th/ 5th year are also eligible
Integrated M. Sc/Integrated 5 year B.S.-M.S.Completed. Students in final year are eligible
Professional Society Examinations (equivalent to B.E/B.Tech)Completed Section A of AMIE or equivalent of such professional courses recognized by UPSC /AICTE

 11.Marking SchemeThe questions will be worth 1 or 2 marks.
 12.Negative Marking1/3 marks will be deducted for the questions carrying 1 mark while 1/2 marks will be cut for questions carrying 2 marks
