Ans: No. The poet does not advocate total inactivity and death. He clearly says: “What I want should not be confused with total inactivity” and “I want no truck with death.”

Ans: The sadness which the poet refers to in the poem is the sadness ‘of never understanding ourselves’. It is also the sadness with which we keep each other threatening with death.

4) What symbol from Nature does the poet invoke to say that there can be life under apparent stillness ?

Ans: To show that there can be life under apparent stillness, the poet involves the symbol of sea. For in that moment of stillness the fishermen would not harm whales and so the fish will be saved.
